This Saturday, September 27, Makarska will celebrate World Tourism Day in a special way, combining tradition, sports, and a unique Dalmatian experience. On the main city beach, the “Ivo Bošković” memorial picigin tournament will take place—the first of international character in Makarska—dedicated to a passionate lover of this authentic game, starting at 3:00 PM.

Picigin, recognized as part of Croatia’s intangible cultural heritage, holds a special place in Makarska as well as being part of the informal tourist offer. It has been played for generations in the shallow waters in front of the Žuta kuća and has also become an unmissable attraction for visitors who see in it a part of the Dalmatian way of life. It is not just a game, as picigin symbolizes the energy and togetherness of life by the sea—values that tourists in Makarska are eager to experience.

The memorial tournament offers visitors and locals the chance to enjoy spectacular jumps and acrobatics together, while also experiencing a part of the authentic local tradition that enriches Makarska’s tourist offerings. In this way, World Tourism Day in our city is celebrated through what best brings people together: play and the sea.
