ST. PHILIP'S CHURCH

The Church of St. Philip Neri is located in the central part of Makarska’s waterfront, with its construction beginning in 1758. This Baroque church, with its façade and separate bell tower, harmoniously blends into the row of houses and is one of the most important architectural and cultural landmarks of Makarska. The church was built in the Baroque style, and its interior features a barrel vault and a semi-circular apse. A notable detail inside the church is the grave of its builder, Bishop Stjepan Blašković, which is embedded in the wall of the church, to the right of the altar.

Although only the altar of the Baroque main altar remained after the reconstruction following the earthquake, the church has preserved its historical value through the four Baroque marble altars placed in the nave of the church. Each of these altars is adorned with altar panels, which further enrich the interior of the church. In 1968, the Church of St. Philip Neri was declared a cultural monument, recognizing its importance in the cultural and religious life of Makarska.
