The Makarska Tourist Board and the City of Makarska are once again launching a new edition of Maestrale program, a project that, for the fifth consecutive year, brings visitors closer to the spirit of the destination through culture, art, heritage, and authentic experiences, while uncovering Makarska’s lesser-known stories.
Maestrale was created with the idea of introducing both visitors and the local community to the hidden corners of the historic town centre, the Mediterranean way of life, the city’s architectural heritage, its narrow streets, façades, and architectural details, as well as the wealth of local stories that shape Makarska’s identity.
The opening of this year’s edition will be held on 13 June 2026 at 8:30 p.m.The opening of this year’s edition will be held on in front of the Makarska City Museum, and will also mark the start of celebrations commemorating the significant anniversary of 120 years of organized tourism in Makarska.

The central highlight of the programme will be the presentation of the video installation “120 Summers – A Topography of Memory” by Lina Rica, an artist born in Makarska who is now active on the international contemporary art scene. Through her artistic practice, Rica explores the relationship between space, memory, identity, and community, using video, light, photography, and other media. The video installation was created in collaboration with the Makarska Tourist Board and the Makarska City Museum specifically to mark the 120th anniversary of organised tourism in Makarska.

After the daytime programme concludes, at dusk, the installation will illuminate the windows of the Makarska City Museum and the Tourist Information Centre in the Tonoli Palace, and it will remain on display until the end of the year, transforming this historic building into a unique space for a contemporary interpretation of the city’s collective memory.

The musical part of the evening will be performed by the band Ljetno kino, led by musician Mladen Max Juričić, one of the most recognizable authors and guitarists on the Croatian music scene. Throughout his rich career, Juričić has left a strong mark through numerous iconic bands and projects, and with his band Ljetno kino he has been creating a distinctive musical style for years, blending original songs, Croatian classics, and international standards into a relaxed, Mediterranean atmosphere.

Their concerts are known for their spontaneity, warmth, and special energy that invites the audience to share in a collective celebration of music, summer, and life, making them an ideal choice for the opening of this year’s Maestrale.
We invite all residents and visitors to join us for an evening that brings together art, music, memory, and community, and to celebrate with us the beginning of another magnificent summer and an important anniversary of tourism in Makarska.
