As part of the Sudamja celebration, on May 9 at Prokurative in Split, the event “Living Heritage of Dalmatia” is being held, bringing together the rich traditions and customs from across the Split-Dalmatia County.
Makarska also makes a special contribution to this unique event by presenting its authentic cultural and gastronomic heritage.

Makarska will be represented by folk ensemble Tempet, who will bring the beauty of traditional folk costumes closer to the audience, as well as the richness of the vocal heritage through a performance by their vocal group. Their performance offers an authentic experience of the Makarska region – a blend of song, identity, and tradition passed down through generations.
In the gastronomic part of the event, Makarska will present itself through its distinctive sweets that carry the spirit of local tradition. Visitors will have the opportunity to taste the Makarana cake, a rich and aromatic dessert from Makarska that is also part of the intangible cultural heritage. In addition to the Makarana cake, visitors will also be able to try kumpet, a traditional dessert that evokes memories of old Dalmatian cuisine. This sweet story is brought to life by Vedrana Vela Puharić, who will use her craftsmanship to bring the authentic flavours of Makarska closer to the audience.

The event features participation from nine tourist boards: Vrgorac, Makarska, Imotski, Sinj, Omiš, Kaštela, Trogir, Brač, and Šolta, each bringing a part of their identity through tradition, customs, and flavours. Some of the content is also designed for the youngest visitors through a children’s corner, while guests will have the opportunity to take home a personal souvenir—a photograph set in an authentic Dalmatian traditional atmosphere.
The event is organized by the Split-Dalmatia County, in partnership with FA Jedinstvo and the tourist boards from the Split-Dalmatia County. Admission is free.
