MALACOLOGICAL MUSEUM
The Malacological Museum of the Franciscan Monastery was founded in 1963 by Dr. Fra Jure Radić. With its impressive collection of sea snails and shellfish from the Adriatic and around the world, it is today the most renowned malacological collection in Croatia. The museum was opened to the public on April 30, 1963, in the old part of the Franciscan Monastery, a protected cultural monument. Although it contains more than 3,000 exhibited shells, the museum showcases not only shells from the Adriatic Sea but also numerous species from tropical and subtropical seas, which are among the most colorful and uniquely shaped shells in existence.
