MONUMENT TO THE TOURIST
The monument is located on the Makarska waterfront, where it attracts the attention of numerous passersby and tourists. The sculpture depicts a young, handsome local man – a "seagull" – in a casual pose, accompanied by an elegant foreign tourist. The monument is made of bronze, standing about 205 centimeters tall, and was erected in honor of all the tourists who have visited Makarska.
In addition to honoring tourists, the monument also reflects the cultural dynamics of Makarska, where local young men often engaged in romantic adventures with foreign visitors. Artist Nikola Šanjek skillfully captured the spirit of that time through the expressive details and movement of the sculptures, with the bronze surface further contributing to the sense of timelessness. The monument has become a favorite spot for photography, with many visitors eagerly posing next to it, attempting to capture the essence of Mediterranean romance.
