Makarska will host the national Blue Flag award ceremony on Friday, May 23rd – an international recognition granted to beaches and marinas that meet high standards of seawater quality, safety, amenities, and sustainability. The event is organized by the association Lijepa Naša, the national coordinator of the Blue Flag programme in Croatia, which has been promoting environmental awareness and sustainable development in coastal areas for over two decades.

In cooperation with the City of Makarska, this year's host and co-organizer, the association is bringing together Blue Flag recipients from across Croatia to symbolically mark the beginning of the new bathing season.The ceremony will begin at 12 PM in the Great Hall of the Hotel Management and Gastronomy Study Centre (Franjevački put 1), while the ceremonial hoisting of the Blue Flag on Makarska’s main city beach is scheduled for 1:15 PM, at the locationnear the rowing club.

In honor of the occasion, ecological activities will also be organized in Makarska, involving students from the Father Petar Perica Elementary School and children from the Biokovsko Zvonce Kindergarten, emphasizing the importance of a sustainable relationship with the environment and educating the youngest about ecological values.
