KAČIĆ SQUARE

Kačić Square is located in the very heart of Makarska and is one of the city’s most recognizable spots. This historic square exudes an authentic Dalmatian atmosphere, surrounded by stone houses, cafes, and restaurants that provide the perfect place to relax and enjoy the lively city ambiance. In the center of the square proudly stands the monument to Friar Andrija Kačić Miošić, the renowned Croatian writer and Franciscan, author of the famous work "Pleasant Conversation of the Slavic People." The monument was erected in 1890 and was crafted by the well-known sculptor Ivan Rendić.

This bronze statue depicts Kačić holding a book, symbolizing his enlightening work and love for folk poetry. Kačić Square is not only a historical center but also a meeting place, a venue for events, and a hub of cultural happenings. During the summer, concerts, festivals, and various artistic events are held here, making it an essential part of Makarska’s cultural life. A visit to Kačić Square offers the opportunity to experience a blend of history and contemporary life—whether enjoying a walk, sipping coffee in the shade of century-old trees, or admiring the architectural beauty and rich cultural heritage of Makarska.
